BLACK+DECKER Purify Air Fryer Review

Scouring the web to discover the best air fryer for me.. I knew I wanted something reliable.  The problem is that some reviews sound great- yet some units seem to break down out of nowhere.  Out of all the units we’ve reviewed, the BLACK+DECKER Purify 2-Liter air fryer screams reliability.

It’s not the most expensive air fryer and it’s from the Black + Decker team.  This, and what we’re about to uncover, make the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit a great option for a first-time air fryer buyer on a budget.

BLACK+DECKER Purify Air Fryer unit

Pros

One of the simplest to clean units.

It’s a more compact model, so tends to cook faster.

Simple “plug and play” operation.

Cons

Slight chemical taste at first, need to wash out the units.

Review Of Product

Ease of Use- 4/5

Overall, the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit is simple to use.  Just plug it in, set the temperature and time and you’re off to the races.

The main challenge is the dial.  The print of the temperature settings itself is tiny and tough to read.  Others share that cooking times sometimes don’t match up to recipes when cooking with their BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit.. But I suspect it’s really because they use the temperature dial wrong.

Note: For those cooking nerds out there like myself this is common.  It’s a phenomenon called “parallax” where you misread analog devices (think car speed, watch faces, or the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit temperature timer) because of where you’re standing when you view it.

Safety- 5/5

That’s right, the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit gets a perfect score for safety.  So safe, you can even let your kids cook with you.  (Although kids are not included when you invest in your BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit).

The unit is well insulated and is not hot to the touch.  Plus, it’s simple to add and remove food.  Some other can be finicky and have a risk of spilling out oil or foods- not this unit.

Space- 4/5

Not only is this a smaller air fryer unit but also it doesn’t run very hot.  That’s why it scores high in terms of space.  However, air fryers are bulky in general so I hesitated to give it a perfect score.

The good news is that what you see is what you get. You don’t need to add a “buffer zone” around your unit to allow for ventilation because running hot isn’t a problem.

Cooking Capacity- 4/5

Great unit for couples or pumping out sides while cooking for friends.  Of course, an air fryer won’t be as big as an oven.. But the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit is able to fit quite a lot for its size.

Finished Products- 3.5/5

I’m pretty strict on the finished product because taste is king.  The first ding the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit received is from cooking time.  With the dial there is a risk you’ll be cooking too hot for too long (or too little at too low of a temperature).  This is mainly user error yet it doesn’t help that the dial labels are tiny.

Second, there’s that new air fryer smell.  You need to rinse and clean your air fryer unit BEFORE heating it up.  It’s much easier to get rid of the plastic smell/taste before than after use.  Again, this is mainly user error but still important to bring up just in case.

How Does It Compare?

The BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit is definitely not your only choice.  Here are a few other options so you can see how they stack up.

Pros

Simple and intuitive to use right out of the box.

Clean up is a breeze with this unit. The non-stick surfaces last well.

Well-made solid unit, should last for a while.

Cons

Temperature control maxes out at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Practically a lot of recipes ask for higher temperatures than this.

Temperature dial goes in 25 degree intervals, can make it tougher to get precise temperatures set fro cooking.

Can take longer to cook because the temperature doesn’t pass 400 degree fahrenheit.

People Also Ask

What can you cook in a 2 liter air fryer?

A 2-liter air fryer holds about eight cups of food. This is great for frying up about two potatoes or up to eight chicken wings.

Can you put frozen food in an air fryer?

Air fryers are perfect for frozen foods. The best are serving up snacks (think french fries, onion rings, pizzas, chicken wings, and so on.).

You can also cook up steaks, burgers, and re-heat leftovers without sacrificing food quality.

I do notice that putting in frozen vegetables (mainly broccoli) can cause it to get soggy. As such I wouldn’t recommend using your air fryer for frozen vegetables!

Can you put microwave meals in air fryer?

Yes! Any microwave safe, ready meals, can be made in the air fryer. Such as TV dinners, Lean Cuisines, and more.

Should You Invest In A BLACK+DECKER Purify Air Fryer?

Yes, the unit can have a plasticy smell fresh out of the box.. And the dial has tiny font.. But otherwise it’s a reliable air fryer at a good price.

That’s why It made our list of top 3 air fryers (for smaller kitchens)!

I recommend it if you’re using your air fryer to make sides or desserts for the family. Or cooking full-time for a party of two.  Otherwise, you may want to go for a bigger unit to fit even more goodies inside.

What makes the BLACK+DECKER Purify air fryer unit an even better fit is if you want an air fryer that won’t dominate your kitchen.  It doesn’t run hot, so you can put this modestly sized air fryer on your counter without extra buffer space.
